Representative Client Projects

  • Litigation of the $600 million insolvency of Mutual Security Life Insurance Company, with proceedings in State and Federal Courts in multiple jurisdictions, including settlements with several reinsurers and arrangements to assume approximately 93 thousand life insurance policies.
     
  • Securing approval of insurance contracts, company licenses where needed in multiple jurisdictions, and the issuance of assumption and conversion insurance policies.
     
  • The arbitration of insurance company obligations, and related arrangements with the National Organization of Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Associations, with favorable actions resulting in neither policyholders nor insurers losing rights or financial assets.
     
  • The licensing of insurance companies in all fifty States. Related services also have been provided for insurers associated with redomestication of companies to other States of domicile, company mergers, the sale and requalification of blocks of insurance business, and company name changes.
     
  • Insurance company product filings in every State, and appearances in administrative insurance department hearings on behalf of insurers.
     
  • Legislative initiatives to draft insurance statutes and regulations in States such as New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Texas, Florida and other jurisdictions, testimony before legislative committees and insurance department panels, and work with Federal offices, including the Internal Revenue Service in Washington D.C., on issues such as flexible benefit plans, group life insurance, and other matters.
